BHS Training and Courses
Ride Safe
Ride Safe training is available with a BHSII coach. The course is available through the summer months, April to September on a Friday evening 5-7pm. The course runs over 4 consecutive evenings with an assessment on conclusion. If you are successful, you will be awarded the Silver Challenge award.
Over the 4 weeks, you will systematically cover the syllabus and requirements of the award delivered through theory and practical sessions, including riding out on the road. Please follow the link for the Ride Safe syllabus.
Having completed your stage 1 and ride safe you will be able to join our stage 2 training.

Challenge Awards
Our instructors can deliver BHS challenge awards. These awards are designed for equestrians wanting to learn and gain a deeper understanding of horse care, lunging and riding skills.
Stage 1 and Ride safe are the first steps on the assessment ladder. Once achieved you will be able to train, alongside industry experience, to achieve stage 2, stage 2 coach, stage 3 and stage 3 coach. Then having trained and gained valuable experience in the industry you will be able to achieve your stage 4 and stage 4 coach.

BHS Stage 1
Across a number of weeks, you will systematically progress through the BHS stage 1 syllabus to ensure a deep understanding and efficient practical skill in both riding and stable management.
Stage 1 training is available on a Monday evening 6-8pm.The training involves 1 hr riding and 1 hr stable management.

You and your coach will form an individual plan and set targets for sign off of your skills record and a prospective date for your assessment, which needs to be booked directly with the BHS.
If you are unable to attend the training at the specified time, we can tailor you’re training if there is a coach available. We can also tailor your training specific to your requirements, whether you want to follow groom pathway or ride pathway only.
BHS Stage 2 Ride & Care
Stage 2 ride and care training is available on a Thursday afternoon 2-4pm. The training involves 1 hr riding and 1 hr stable management.

Foundation Groom with Riding (Stage 2)
You and your coach will form an individual plan and set targets for sign off of your skills record and a prospective date for your assessment, which needs to be booked directly with the BHS.
If you are unable to attend the training at the specified time, we can tailor you’re training, if there is a coach available.
We can also tailor your training specific to your requirements, whether you want to follow groom pathway or ride pathway only.
BHS Stage 2 Coach
Once you have completed your stage 2 you can join our stage 2 coach training available on Monday afternoons 1-3pm.
Across a number of weeks, you will systematically progress through the BHS stage 2 coach syllabus to ensure a deep understanding and efficient practical skill in coaching.
This qualification is the first of many teaching qualifications that is highly commended and recognised world-wide!
You and your coach will form an individual plan and set targets for sign off of your skills record and a prospective date for your assessment, which needs to be booked directly with the BHS.

BHS Stage 3 Coach
Once you have completed your stage 2 coach you can join our stage 3 coach training available on Tuesday mornings 10am-12pm. You can train for the coaching alongside your stage 3 care and riding.
Across a number of weeks, you will systematically progress through the BHS stage 3 coach syllabus to ensure a deep understanding and efficient practical skill in coaching.
It is highly recommended that this training is enhanced with practical industry experience.
